Happy Valentine’s Day! I thought I would treat you today to a poem I wrote. It’s a song, really, and I would love to put it to music, but I’m not talented in that department.
The night is done
And dawn comes close
The dancing’s over
And the beer’s run out
You’ve got a girl
Happy on your arm
As you head out
Into the moonlight fading
Chorus:
Who tips the moon
When the night is done?
Tip for the barman
Tip for the band
But who cast the spell?
Who gave you the chance?
No tip for the moon
When the sun comes up.
The barman winked
Said: “Take a chance!”
You tipped him extra
In thanks for the advice
The band smiled when you stuttered
As you asked her for a dance
And they played soft, low and slow
You tipped them for that
But…
Chorus:
Who tips the moon
When the night is done?
Tip for the barman
Tip for the band
But who cast the spell?
Who gave you the chance?
No tip for the moon
When the sun comes up.
How pretty she looked
The moon playing in her hair
And how great you felt
With the moon hiding
The fact that you were shaking
You thanked those cool rays
As you tipped the girl over your arm
And gave her a goodnight kiss
But…
Chorus:
Who tips the moon
When the night is done?
Tip for the barman
Tip for the band
But who cast the spell?
Who gave you the chance?
No tip for the moon
When the sun comes up.
Chorus:
Who tips the moon
When the night is done?
Tip for the barman
Tip for the band
But who cast the spell?
Who gave you the chance?
No tip for the moon
When the sun comes up.
